Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill had traffic infractions against him dismissed on Monday due to officers failing to come to court. The allegations of careless driving and failing to wear a seatbelt were dismissed by Miami-Dade County Traffic Infraction Hearing Officer Patricia Henrys due to lack of prosecution. Hill celebrated the dismissal on social media, prompting an apology from the Miami-Dade Police Department for the oversight. The department stated that the dismissal does not mean the allegations held no merit and that an internal review revealed an oversight on the officer’s behalf.
The incident occurred on September 8 when Hill was pulled over by Miami-Dade police on his way to a Dolphins game. Video footage showed Hill being handcuffed and placed face down on the pavement while teammates Jonnu Smith and Calais Campbell stopped to help. Hill expressed concern that the situation could have been worse if he was not a well-known NFL player, mentioning the potential for escalation to a dangerous level.
Despite the incident, Hill went on to have a successful game, catching seven passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. The situation highlighted concerns about police conduct during routine traffic stops and the potential for escalation in such encounters. The dismissal of the traffic infractions against Hill underscored the need for accountability and transparency in law enforcement procedures.
