Sun Devil Wrestling Dominates in Dual Matches, Celebrates 600th Win
Tempe, Ariz. – The No. 15 Sun Devil Wrestling team showcased an impressive performance last Friday at Desert Financial Arena, defeating in-state rivals Arizona Christian and Embry-Riddle with commanding scores of 43-3 and 48-5, respectively. With these victories, the Sun Devils improved their season record to 3-1 and celebrated a significant milestone: the 600th dual win in program history.
Coached by Zeke Jones, the Sun Devils dominated the mat, achieving 18 wins out of 20 bouts and racking up a remarkable 15 bonus-point victories. Highlighting the evening were standout performances from Emilio Ysaguirre, Carter Dibert, and Shay Addison, each securing two bonus-point wins. Newcomers made their marks as well, with Damian Moreno claiming his first dual victory and true freshman Javani Majoor celebrated his collegiate win.
The team displayed a well-rounded attack, accumulating seven pins, seven technical falls, and a major decision across both matches. Noteworthy results included Dibert’s swift victory over Arizona Christian’s Sean Archuleta via fall in just 53 seconds and a strong tech-fall by Ysaguirre against Embry-Riddle’s Adam Stanley, winning 19-4 in just 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
Looking ahead, the Sun Devils are set for a quick turnaround as they prepare to face No. 4 Oklahoma State on Sunday, marking the team’s first Big 12 Conference dual match of the season.
