President-elect Donald Trump has named Russell Vought, a former OMB director and co-author of Project 2025, as his pick to head the Office of Management and Budget. Trump cited Vought’s experience as an “aggressive cost-cutter and deregulator” who will help implement the America First Agenda. Vought has emphasized the importance of fiscal responsibility and setting fiscal goals for the federal government. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Vought advocated for the president taking greater control over government agencies to dismantle the “woke and weaponized bureaucracy.” Despite distancing himself from Project 2025 during his campaign, Trump has selected several individuals associated with the initiative for key positions in his administration.
If confirmed by the Senate, Vought will oversee budget and execution of Trump’s policies across departments and agencies. Stephen Miller called Vought a “transformative pick” for the budget office due to his role in developing plans to dismantle the Deep State. Trump also announced other key Cabinet picks, including Scott Turner as housing and urban development secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer as labor secretary, Marty Makary as FDA commissioner, and Sebastian Gorka as deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism. Gorka faced criticism in the past for wearing the medal of a Hungarian group with alleged Nazi ties to Trump’s inaugural ball.
