Skulls found on a New Mexico property were determined to have been procured online and are not related to a missing woman’s case. The Lea County Sheriff’s Office initially thought the skulls could be related to a woman who disappeared in 2019 after a man made alarming statements and discarded objects that appeared to be human bones. However, further investigation revealed that the skulls had ornamental pieces from outside the United States and were not of medical or legal significance. The remains will be cremated. The sheriff’s office clarified that there is no link between the skulls and the missing woman other than the proximity of her home to the property where the skulls were found in Jal. The man who was carrying the bags with the bones has not been identified or arrested. The case highlights the dangers of purchasing human remains online and the importance of thorough investigations before making assumptions about potential connections to missing person cases.
