A woman from Georgia was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for killing her 20-month-old son in 2022. Leilani Simon reported her son, Quinton Simon, missing from their home near Savannah, which led to a large search until his remains were found in a landfill. Simon was convicted of murder last month for causing her son’s death with an unknown object that caused serious bodily injury and then dumping him in a trash bin. In addition to malice murder and felony murder charges, Simon was also convicted of concealing the death of another and for making false reports and false statements. The judge expressed that the death of Quinton Simon had a significant impact on the community before pronouncing the sentence. Simon stood silently as the sentence was read and did not speak during the hearing. The judge, Tammy Stokes, concluded the hearing by expressing her hope for peace in some way. The case of Quinton Simon’s death and the subsequent conviction of his mother for murder shocked the local community and brought closure to the case with her sentencing to life in prison.
