A woman who accused mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor of raping and battering her in a Dublin hotel penthouse was awarded nearly 250,000 Euros ($257,000) by a civil court jury. The woman claimed that the assault left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor denied the allegations, stating that the encounter was consensual and the woman fabricated the claims. The woman’s lawyer argued that McGregor was a coward who took out his anger on her after losing a fight. The woman testified that McGregor threatened to kill her during the encounter, putting her in a chokehold multiple times. Despite the woman’s emotional testimony, police declined to bring charges against McGregor due to insufficient evidence.
McGregor maintained his innocence and accused the woman of lying, stating that their sexual encounter was athletic and vigorous but not rough. His lawyer urged the jury to set aside any animosity towards McGregor, emphasizing that the woman never mentioned to investigators that McGregor threatened her life. Defense attorneys presented surveillance video showing the woman appearing happy and affectionate towards McGregor after leaving the hotel room. McGregor explained that he refused to answer follow-up police questions on the advice of his lawyer. Though McGregor was found liable in the civil case, he did not comment on the verdict as he left court.
