Sun Devil Women’s Basketball Dominates Oregon State in Briann January Classic Finale
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State University (ASU) Sun Devil women’s basketball team displayed a commanding performance in their 79-60 victory over Oregon State in the final match of the Briann January Classic. This win marked ASU’s largest margin of victory this season, showcasing both offensive and defensive prowess.
The Sun Devils logged impressive stats, shooting 49.2% from the field— their second-highest this season— and achieving a season-best 88.2% from the free-throw line as well as 44.4% from three-point range. Notably, ASU committed only 13 turnovers, a season-low. Defensively, the squad limited Oregon State to a mere 60 points, 19 field goals, and three successful three-point attempts, all season lows for their opponents.
Star player Tyi Skinner led the scoring with 21 points, marking her third game with 20 or more points this season. Jalyn Brown contributed 12 points, while Kennedy Basham and Jazion Jackson both recorded double-doubles with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Basham also excelled defensively, recording six blocks— double that of the Beavers’ total.
ASU quickly established a lead, scoring 42 points in the first half, and never looked back. The team outscored Oregon State 13-0 in a pivotal span early in the game, leading to a 12-point halftime advantage. The Sun Devils then maintained a comfortable lead, reaching a high of 27 points late in the game.
Looking ahead, ASU (now 3-2) will face a challenging schedule, including neutral site games against No. 20 Kentucky and South Dakota, as well as road games at Coppin State and in Washington D.C. The Sun Devils won’t play again in Tempe until December 30, when they host Penn at the new Mullett Arena, marking a thrilling milestone for ASU Women’s Basketball.
