Donald Trump made history by becoming the 47th president of the United States, despite being the first to have a felony conviction. The victory marked a remarkable comeback after facing defeat four years prior, surviving assassination attempts, and being at the center of a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Trump will be joined by Vice President JD Vance, who will be the highest-ranking millennial in government at 40 years old.
Trump’s win was officially declared after clinching key battleground states such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and others. Election Day itself was relatively peaceful despite concerns about potential disruptions. However, there were hoaxes involving bomb threats in some battleground states.
Additionally, various states had ballot measures related to abortion rights, with results varying across different states. Measures to write abortion rights into state constitutions failed in Nebraska, Florida, and South Dakota, while Missouri voters overturned a strict abortion ban. Arizona voters supported protecting abortion rights up to viability around 21 weeks.
Voters in Nevada, New York, Colorado, and Montana also reaffirmed abortion and reproductive rights. Trump’s victory and the outcomes of the abortion-related ballot measures have significant implications for the future of the United States.
