Casa Grande Police Seek Public Help in Church Arson Case
Casa Grande, Ariz. — Nearly two months after a significant arson incident, authorities are urging residents to assist in identifying the individual responsible for a fire that severely damaged St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. The blaze occurred in the early hours of October 18, 2024, near the church’s electronic and music area, leading to substantial damage to the worship space, storage areas, hallways, and pews.
Initially, officials believed the fire was not suspicious; however, recent developments prompted a shift in this assessment. Casa Grande police have released surveillance footage on social media, showing a person they suspect of setting the fire.
Detective Alex Teitelbaum is leading the investigation in collaboration with the Casa Grande Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). The police are appealing to the community for any information that could help identify the arsonist. In the aftermath of the fire, parishioners have been holding Mass in the church’s community center as the investigation continues. The church, situated at 201 North Picacho Street, has lost significant portions of its structure, affecting its operations and the local community.
