Wisconsin Badgers Shock No. 9 Arizona with Historic Win
MADISON, Wis. — In an electrifying display at the Kohl Center, the Wisconsin Badgers toppled No. 9 Arizona with a decisive 103-88 victory on Friday night, propelled by John Tonje’s stunning career-high 41 points. Tonje came within two points of breaking the school scoring record, showcasing his stellar performance shooting 8 for 14 from the field, including 4 of 6 from beyond the arc, while also setting a school record with 21 free throws made.
The Badgers led the game from start to finish, and after the final buzzer, jubilant fans rushed the floor to celebrate the monumental win. Alongside Tonje, contributions came from John Blackwell, who scored 14 points, and Max Klesmit with 13. For Arizona, Jaden Bradley led the charge with 22 points, supported by Trey Townsend with 17 and KJ Lewis with 15, while star guard Caleb Love struggled significantly, scoring just six points on 2 of 13 shooting.
Halftime saw the unveiling of a banner in honor of former Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan, who was recently inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The game was marked by a flurry of fouls, with a total of 63 called and 87 free throws taken. Wisconsin capitalized on their opportunities, going 41 for 47 from the line.
