Ketel Marte of the Diamondbacks is awarded the Silver Slugger for second base

Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star Ketel Marte has added another accolade to his resume by collecting his first career Silver Slugger award as the best hitter among second baseman in the National League for the year 2024. Marte becomes the first player from the D-backs to win this award since pitcher Zack Greinke in 2019. The last position players from the team to achieve this honor were first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and outfielder David Peralta in 2018.

Marte secured the Silver Slugger by leading major league second baseman with a .932 OPS, 36 home runs, and 95 RBIs, making him the most productive hitter at his position. Only a few players in the past decade have achieved similar numbers while playing primarily at second base. Marte’s remarkable performance has also earned him nominations for other prestigious awards, including the Gold Glove, Hank Aaron Award, All-MLB team, and NL MVP.

The winner of the Silver Slugger award is determined by managers and coaches from every MLB team, voting for the best hitters in each position. Marte’s achievement adds him to a list of other notable Diamondbacks players who have won the award, including Greinke, Goldschmidt, Peralta, and Aaron Hill, who secured the title back in 2012.

Additionally, the MLB has announced the full list of Silver Slugger winners for both the National League and American League, with players like Bryce Harper, Francisco Lindor, Shohei Ohtani, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. among the recipients. Marte’s impressive season has solidified his position among the league’s top hitters and emphasizes his importance to the Diamondbacks roster.
