Gilbert Family Faces Sewage Disaster, Seeks Accountability from Construction Crew
GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) – A Gilbert family is navigating the aftermath of a sewage disaster that flooded their home just days before Halloween, leaving them with extensive damage and health concerns. Jeremy Flessner and Nicole Flood are calling for accountability after a construction crew accidentally ruptured a sewer line while installing a fiber-optic network in their neighborhood.
The incident resulted in raw sewage spilling into their home, affecting a dining room, bathroom, closet, hallway, and foyer, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage. "We had sewage coming out of the front door, we had sewage coming out of our stucco wall," Flood recounted. As a result, the couple, along with their children, were forced to relocate to an Airbnb while repairs are underway.
In the complex chain of subcontracting—GigaPower contracted Tilson, which further subcontracted to Regon—the couple struggles to determine who is responsible for the cleanup and extensive damage. "We didn’t hire these contractors. This was done without our consent," Flood emphasized. Despite spending nearly $10,000 on plumbing repairs, they have yet to receive clear communication regarding accountability for the mess.
Tilson issued a statement asserting they are working with the homeowners and the Town of Gilbert to address the issue, while the Town clarified that their role is limited, as utility companies like GigaPower have legal rights to repair works within public rights-of-way. Gilbert officials stated that contractors are regulated by state laws rather than local jurisdiction.
As the Flessner family wrestles with the aftermath, they remain frustrated, seeking answers and support amidst the confusion left by the construction process.
