Wisconsin Badgers Triumph Over #8 Arizona in Historic Win

MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team celebrated a significant victory, defeating the #8 ranked Arizona Wildcats 103-88 on Friday night for their first win of the season against a ranked opponent. John Tonje was the star of the evening, scoring an impressive 41 points—just two shy of the Badgers’ single-game record. He also led the team with six rebounds, showcasing his all-around performance. Tonje shone at the free-throw line, making 21 of 22 shots.

Supporting Tonje were teammates John Blackwell, who contributed 14 points, and Max Klesmit, adding 13 points along with three rebounds. Steven Crowl also had a solid game, recording eight points and providing six assists. The match featured a staggering 63 fouls, resulting in a combined total of 87 free throws with Wisconsin converting an impressive 41 of 47 attempts.

This game was part of a two-year, home-and-home series between the Badgers and Wildcats, following Wisconsin’s loss in Tucson last November. The night was further highlighted by a special ceremony honoring former Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan, who was recently inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Badgers will look to build on this momentum when they face the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley on Monday at the Kohl Center. Fans can catch the action with a 7 PM tip-off, and pregame coverage starting at 6:00 PM on WSAU.
