Arizona Wildcats snapped a five-game losing streak with a dominant 27-3 win over Houston on Friday night. The Wildcats, who are now 4-6, capitalized on their extra time to prepare after a bye week, showcasing a strong defense and timely offense led by Tyler Loop’s kicking expertise. Loop nailed a school-record 62-yard field goal to end the first half, adding to the Wildcats’ momentum.
Quali Conley scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one passing, while Genesis Smith contributed two takeaways on defense. Noah Fifita threw for 224 yards and two TDs, with Tetairoa McMillan making strides towards the school’s career receiving record. On defense, Arizona limited Houston’s mobile quarterback Zeon Chriss, holding him to minimal yards and pressuring him into mistakes.
The Wildcats’ performance, including shutting down Houston’s third and fourth-down conversion attempts, highlighted their defensive strength throughout the game. Despite a few setbacks, such as a botched field goal attempt, Arizona managed to maintain control and secure a much-needed victory. Conley’s explosive plays and Loop’s kicking prowess were instrumental in securing the win.
With two games left in the season, Arizona is looking to build on this victory and finish strong to remain in contention for bowl eligibility. The Wildcats’ resilience and determination were on full display as they overcame their recent struggles to outplay Houston and secure a convincing win.
