Seton Catholic Prep’s football team has had a remarkable turnaround this season, going from a 2-8 record in 2023 to 8-2 this fall. The 10-seeded Sentinels are now gearing up for the 4A playoffs, facing off against Arcadia in the first round. Coach Pete Walheim attributes their success to a core group of experienced seniors and a total commitment from both players and coaches.
The team’s defense has been a key factor in their success, allowing just 17.8 points per game compared to over 36 points per game last year. Defensive coordinator Brian Hunter introduced some new concepts to the scheme, which has paid off with 25 interceptions, 16 sacks, and six fumble recoveries in the regular season.
With an exciting playoff run ahead, the team is facing a tough opponent in Arcadia, who reached the 4A state semi-finals last year. Despite injuries on both sides, Seton is confident in their ability to compete and potentially make a deep playoff run. Coach Walheim believes his team is as good as anyone in the playoffs and is not counting them out from winning it all.
The success of Seton Catholic Prep’s football team this season has brought a new level of excitement to campus and has reignited support for the program. With a core group of talented seniors leading the way and a rejuvenated commitment from players and coaches, Seton Catholic Prep is poised to make a serious playoff push and potentially bring home a championship.
