Arizona State University prevails over Grand Canyon University in intense battle at Footprint Center

ASU men’s basketball claimed a hard-fought victory over GCU with a final score of 87-76 at the packed Footprint Center in Phoenix. The game was characterized by intense competition, with 41 fouls called and no team holding a double-digit lead until late in the game when ASU took control. Freshman guard Joson Sanon was a standout player, scoring a career-high 21 points including five of ASU’s 11 made 3-pointers. Sanon also showcased his defensive skills against GCU star Tyon Grant-Foster. Point guard Alston Mason contributed five crucial points during a 17-8 run that helped ASU gain separation in the second half. BJ Freeman, the leading scorer for ASU in previous games, struggled with efficiency but managed to score nine points including a late 3-pointer to help secure the win. Freshman big man Jayden Quaintance sealed the victory with a crucial block in the final minutes. Both teams now look ahead to their next games, with ASU set to face St. Thomas (MN) on Sunday and GCU taking on UC Davis on Wednesday. The Sun Devils’ victory marks their third win of the season, with a 3-1 record, as they continue to showcase their competitive spirit and strong teamwork on the court.
