The Pennsylvania Senate race between Republican Dave McCormick and Democratic Sen. Bob Casey is heading to a recount due to the narrow margin between the two candidates, with just over 29,000 votes, or 0.4 percent, separating them. Any margin under 0.5 percentage points triggers a recount in Pennsylvania. McCormick’s spokeswoman called his lead “insurmountable,” while Casey has not conceded the race and stated that the American democratic process will play out. Former President Donald Trump carried Pennsylvania, helping him secure the presidency, but there is a sizable drop-off in votes between Trump and McCormick. Senate Republicans have already secured the majority with wins in other states. McCormick had declared victory shortly after the election, but Casey has not yet reached the right conclusion. The recount must be completed by Nov. 26, with results to be published on Nov. 27. Senate Democrats have won in other states, even as Trump carried them. McCormick stated that he will respectfully move forward based on the outcome of the election, regardless of whether there is a recount.
