In the month of August, DraftKings emerged as the top sports betting operator in Arizona, with a handle of almost $170.3 million, closely followed by FanDuel with $145.8 million. The Arizona Department of Gaming reported that the total sports betting handle for the month exceeded $496.6 million, with mobile sportsbooks contributing $473.8 million. This marked a significant increase from the previous month and a substantial year-on-year rise from August 2023.
Revenue collected by Arizona sports betting operators in August totaled around $37.4 million, with mobile sportsbooks accounting for over 99% of this amount. Privilege fees paid to the state by sportsbooks reached over $2.2 million in August, bringing the total fees paid since launching in September 2021 to $97.3 million.
Looking at the top operators, DraftKings maintained its lead against FanDuel, with a 47.4% year-on-year jump in handle, surpassing its competitor by 15.5% in wagers. The 2024-25 NFL season’s early kickoff is expected to drive further growth in handle and revenue for September, building on the success seen in August.
