A 15-year-old boy in Washington state was charged with five counts of murder and one count of attempted murder after shooting and killing his parents and three siblings, aged 7, 9, and 13. The boy called the police claiming that one of the victims had killed the family and then himself. However, his 11-year-old sister, who survived by playing dead, told police that her brother was the one who shot them. The boy waived his right to appear in court and is being held in a juvenile detention facility. The attorneys representing him stressed that he is innocent until proven guilty and portrayed him as a normal teenage boy with no criminal history. The family homeschooled their children and were well-known in the community. The father, who worked as an electrical engineer, was shot four times, and the mother had two gunshot wounds. The evidence pointed towards the boy systematically murdering his family and attempting to stage the scene to make it look like his 13-year-old sibling was responsible. The community and the father’s workplace have expressed shock and sadness over the tragic event.
