Kamala Harris’ campaign has launched a new television ad aimed at linking the words she has used to describe Donald Trump – unhinged, unstable, and unchecked – with the potential policy implications if Trump were to return to office. The ad suggests that Trump would ignore the checks that restrain a president’s power and highlights the controversial Project 2025 conservative blueprint that Trump has distanced himself from. The campaign aims to raise questions about Trump’s mental acuity and lack of transparency regarding his health records.
The ad, titled “Total Power,” portrays Trump as unfit for office by using his own words and actions to highlight his instability and lack of accountability. Harris’ campaign has internal research indicating that portraying Trump as unstable is an effective messaging tool for persuadable voters.
The ad warns that a second Trump term could result in higher costs on groceries, cuts to social security and Medicare, more tax breaks for billionaires, and a national abortion ban. The Harris campaign has been critiquing Trump’s policies and character through a $370 million paid media blitz in the final days of the election.
Earlier this month, the campaign also released a digital ad targeting vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance as an extremist and raising concerns about his proximity to the presidency if Trump were to win. Harris’ team is strategically using messaging to paint Trump as unfit for office and highlight the potential consequences of his policies.
