A Russian man, identified as Mikhail Pichugin, was rescued after surviving for over two months in a small inflatable boat in the stormy Sea of Okhotsk. He had set out with his brother and nephew in early August to watch whales, but their engine failed, leading to their deaths. Pichugin was found by a fishing vessel off the Kamchatka Peninsula, weighing only 110lbs and having lost half of his body weight. It is unclear how he managed to survive in the harsh conditions of the sea. When the crew of the fishing vessel initially spotted the boat on radar, they thought it was debris, but were shocked to find Pichugin alive. He was heard shouting for help as he was rescued. An investigation has been launched into the incident on charges of safety violations that led to the deaths of his brother and nephew. Pichugin’s miraculous survival in the Sea of Okhotsk, known for its severe weather, highlights the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
