Urgent care facilities in western North Carolina have started to reopen following Hurricane Helene, providing much-needed access to healthcare for residents in the aftermath of the storm. FastMed Urgent Care locations in Candler, Asheville, Hendersonville, Boone, and Wilkesboro have all reopened, using temporary water systems and generators due to storm damage. Mission Hospital, the primary hospital in the area, has been gradually recovering and providing essential services. The urgent care centers have seen an uptick in patients seeking treatment for various medical issues, including lacerations, general illness, and bee stings. FastMed’s goal is to provide convenient and accessible healthcare to the community during the recovery process. The reopening of these urgent care facilities has been a crucial lifeline for residents like Elena Gherasim, who was able to quickly seek medical attention for her son’s allergic reaction without having to wait in long emergency room lines. Gherasim expressed gratitude for the reopening of the urgent care center, emphasizing the importance of having quick access to healthcare during times of emergency. Other Mercy Urgent Care locations have also reopened in various communities, further expanding access to medical services for residents in the region.
