Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called out China and Brazil for pushing “half-hearted settlement plans” during his address to the UN General Assembly, urging global leaders to back his 2022 “peace formula” demanding the expulsion of Russian forces from Ukraine. Zelenskyy warned against seeking a lull instead of a real end to the war and accused China and Brazil of prioritizing their own interests at Ukraine’s expense.
As Russian forces claimed further advances in eastern Ukraine, Zelenskyy expressed concerns about potential Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which could leave the country vulnerable during the upcoming winter months. He also warned of intelligence alerts indicating potential Russian attacks on Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, emphasizing the threat of a disaster with far-reaching consequences.
Zelenskyy will meet with US President Joe Biden to present a revamped “victory plan” and seek authorization to use US-supplied ballistic missiles deeper inside Russian territory. The Ukrainian leader is also set to meet Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump, and Congress to rally support for Ukraine’s efforts to end the war.
Zelenskyy stressed Ukraine’s commitment to ending the conflict and highlighted the devastating impact of a potential nuclear disaster on neighboring nations. He called on global leaders to stand with Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and support the country’s pursuit of a just peace.
