Man accused of attempting to assassinate Trump at Florida golf club | Donald Trump

A man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump outside his south Florida golf course was indicted on five counts, including attempted assassination of a major political candidate. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was charged with possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, assaulting a federal officer, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Authorities found evidence of a murder plot, including a note addressed to “Dear World” expressing his intent to kill Trump and offering $150,000 for someone to complete the job. Routh allegedly staked out the golf course for a month before hiding near the sixth hole and aiming a rifle at a US Secret Service agent. The agent fired at Routh, who attempted to flee in his SUV and was apprehended on I-95. Upon his arrest, authorities found a list of dates and venues where Trump was expected to appear, as well as six mobile phones with incriminating evidence. Routh has a history of run-ins with law enforcement, including a previous felony conviction for illegally possessing a machine gun and multiple counts of possession of stolen goods. The US Attorney General emphasized that violence against public officials is unacceptable and that those responsible will be held accountable.
