Brussels is buzzing with art and design this September as the city hosts its annual Design September festival. Throughout the month, the city is filled with events and exhibitions showcasing the creativity of artists and designers.
One highlight of the festival is Dutch-Italian artist Jacopo Koning’s exhibition ‘The Absurd Greet’ at the Alto Galleria jewellery store in Ixelles. His unique and chaotic pieces, inspired by Dadaism and the avant-garde movement, challenge the norms of society and the overwhelming amount of information we face daily.
Other exhibitions at Design September offer practical solutions to improve lives, such as an expandable wheelchair for children called “Hugo” by Czech designer Jan KadÄ›ra. This innovative wheelchair is designed to be more reusable and durable, addressing the financial burden families face in obtaining new wheelchairs for their children.
The festival also features exhibitions like ‘New Ways of Living’ curated by CityTools & Dogma, which focuses on sustainable living and building practices to address the challenges faced by European cities. Urban developer Antoine Crahay emphasizes the need for more flexible building structures to create a more sustainable future.
Design September will return to Brussels in 2025, showcasing the best of European design and art. The festival is a celebration of creativity and innovation, offering visitors a glimpse into the future of design in Europe.
