A Colorado jury has convicted Ahmad Alissa, 25, on all 55 charges, including 10 counts of first-degree murder, for the shooting at a Boulder supermarket that took place on March 22, 2021. The jury deliberated for about six hours before reaching their verdict. Alissa did not show much reaction as the verdicts were read in court. His defense team had argued for not guilty by diminished capacity, claiming that Alissa was unable to distinguish between right and wrong due to schizophrenia.
The speed at which the verdict was reached was not surprising to legal analysts, who expected the jury to come back with this outcome. The victims of the shooting were Neven Stanisic, Tralona Bartkowiak, Denny Stong, Teri Leiker, Suzanne Fountain, Kevin Mahoney, Lynn Murray, Jody Waters, Rikki Olds, and Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley.
This is still a developing story and updates may follow as more information becomes available.
