YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced a slate of new artificial intelligence features coming to the platform, including generative AI tools that will enhance the creativity of billions of users worldwide. These features will be integrated into YouTube Shorts, providing six-second AI-generated video clips. The platform aims to combat misuse of AI by watermarked and clearly labeled AI-generated content.
In addition to video creation tools, YouTube will introduce an “Inspiration” feature for creators with AI-generated text and image suggestions, as well as AI-enhanced comment response suggestions. The platform will also expand its auto-dubbing feature and introduce a “Hype” button for viewer suggestions on trending videos.
YouTube is also improving its community and monetization features, offering creators the ability to identify videos as “Seasons” and “Episodes” and building out the “Communities” feature for fan interaction. Viewers will have the option to give livestream “gifts” to creators.
The announcement follows other AI integrations in the tech industry, including AI-generated video capabilities from companies like Microsoft and Meta. YouTube’s new AI features, including the Veo video creation tool and Dream Track instrument-only tracks, aim to enhance creativity and increase engagement on the platform. The company is focused on providing tools for creators to speed up content creation while maintaining responsibility in AI usage.
