David Weir, a Paralympic legend from Britain, bid farewell to international racing after finishing fifth in the marathon. The games were marred by a tragic incident as a minute of silence was held in memory of Ugandan marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei, who was killed by her former boyfriend.
In wheelchair basketball, the Netherlands claimed back-to-back titles in the women’s competition, defeating the United States in the final. The closing ceremony at the Stade de France promised a vibrant atmosphere, with DJs set to perform on stage as the Olympic cauldron is extinguished and the torch passed to Los Angeles, the host of the next Paralympic Games in 2028.
Despite challenges posed by the ongoing war with Russia, Ukraine managed to secure a seventh-place finish in the medals table. The games in Paris showcased the incredible talent and resilience of Paralympic athletes from around the world, with moments of triumph and heartbreak etched into the history of the competition.
