Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs recently appointed the president of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Dr. José Luis Cruz Rivera, to the State Board of Education. This board consists of 11 members who are responsible for regulating and developing rules regarding primary and secondary public education in the state.
In a statement following his appointment, Dr. Cruz Rivera expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and highlighted his commitment to advancing educational attainment and equity in the state. Prior to his role at NAU, Dr. Cruz Rivera served as the president of the City University of New York Herbert Lehman College and as executive vice chancellor and university provost of CUNY’s 25 campus system. He also held the position of provost at California State University, Fullerton.
