World News: Air Europa flight hit by ‘severe’ turbulence, leaving dozens injured

An Air Europa flight from Spain to Uruguay was forced to make an emergency landing in Brazil due to severe turbulence, resulting in injuries to 30 passengers of varying severity. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft was diverted to Natal airport in northeastern Brazil, where passengers were taken to hospitals with minor abrasions or orthopaedic traumas. Photos and videos posted online showed passengers being treated for injuries, with some wearing neck braces. The airline confirmed that a second plane would be sent from Madrid to pick up the passengers and continue the trip to Uruguay. This incident comes shortly after a British man died following severe turbulence on a Singapore Airlines flight. Health officials in Rio Grande do Norte state in Brazil stated that the injured passengers were receiving treatment in hospitals. Scientists have also suggested that plane turbulence could worsen as a result of climate change. The airline assured that the flight landed normally and that those injured were being treated. The safety and well-being of passengers remains a top priority for Air Europa.
