Quincy Wilson, a 16-year-old student from Bullis School near Washington, D.C., has been selected to represent the U.S. in the 4×400 meter relay team at the Paris Olympics in 2024. He set the world record for under-18 runners during the trials, beating the previous record set by Justin Robinson. Despite not making the team as an individual runner, Wilson’s exceptional performance earned him a spot on the relay team.
Wilson’s coach, Joe Lee, received the news directly from USA Track & Field and shared it with Wilson, who expressed his joy at the opportunity to compete at the Olympics. Wilson’s success at such a young age makes him the youngest male American track Olympian, surpassing the records set by Jim Ryun and Erriyon Knighton.
Both Ryun and Knighton were 17 when they competed in the Olympics, with Ryun making his debut in 1964 and Knighton in 2021. Knighton, who also qualified for the Paris Olympics in the 200 meters, will join Wilson in representing the U.S. in track events. Wilson’s historic achievement as the youngest male American track Olympian highlights his incredible talent and dedication to the sport, setting the stage for an exciting Olympic debut in Paris.
