The Phoenix Suns have announced the signing of veteran center Mason Plumlee to a one-year contract, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Plumlee, a 34-year-old big man, has played for several teams in his career, most recently with the Los Angeles Clippers.
In the past season, Plumlee averaged 5.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in limited minutes. His addition comes as former backup center Drew Eubanks declined his player option, leaving a gap in the Suns’ roster.
The Suns struggled when starting center Jusuf Nurkic went to the bench, showcasing the need for a reliable backup option. Eubanks faced challenges with positioning and decision-making, leading to defensive lapses and an overall decrease in quality play when Nurkic was off the court.
Plumlee’s signing is seen as a move to improve the depth and stability of the Suns’ frontcourt. His agent, Mark Bartelstein, has connections to the Suns organization through his son Josh Bartelstein, who serves as the team’s CEO.
