In a recent interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump criticized Maryland Republican Senate candidate Larry Hogan for urging Americans to respect the verdict in former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial. Lara Trump stated that Hogan’s comments are “ridiculous” and that he does not deserve the respect of anyone in the Republican Party or America.
When asked whether the RNC will support Hogan’s Senate bid, Lara Trump dodged the question and emphasized that Hogan’s remarks are a “shame.” She also declined to disclose the amount of fundraising that will cover Donald Trump’s legal fees, but mentioned that the RNC raised $70 million in digital fundraising in the first 48 hours after the verdict was handed down.
Hogan, an outspoken Trump critic and former Maryland governor, had called for Americans to respect the legal process after Trump’s trial. His Senate campaign did not immediately respond to Lara Trump’s comments. The race for the Maryland Senate seat, left vacant by incumbent Sen. Ben Cardin, is expected to be competitive due to Hogan’s high profile. The Cook Political Report rates the race as likely Democrat, but Hogan’s influence in the state may make it more challenging for Democrats. Governor Wes Moore, a Democrat, highlighted Hogan’s record and the contrast with Democratic nominee Angela Alsobrooks during an interview on ABC News’ “This Week.”
