Gabriel Moreno on track for minimum IL stint with the Diamondbacks

[ad_1]
The Arizona Diamondbacks are optimistic about catcher Gabriel Moreno’s return from a minimum 10-day injured list stint due to a sprained left thumb. Manager Torey Lovullo is confident Moreno will be ready to play again after checking off certain boxes, such as catching bullpen sessions and playing in a game at the Arizona Complex League. The 11th day of his stint could put him back in action for the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In Moreno’s absence, Tucker Barnhart and Jose Herrera have been stepping in as catchers.

In addition to Moreno, other players on the Diamondbacks are also on the road to recovery. Pitcher Zac Gallen may start a game on Saturday if his bullpen goes well, while Alek Thomas is rehabbing in Triple-A Reno before potentially returning to the Diamondbacks. Reliever Miguel Castro is making progress with his shoulder injury as well.

Meanwhile, starters Merrill Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez are currently throwing at a distance of 90-105 feet with no work off a mound yet. Rodriguez is expected to pitch for the Diamondbacks first, with another MRI scheduled to ensure his readiness.

The Diamondbacks are hopeful that this upcoming week will see the return of several key players to the lineup, providing a much-needed boost to the team as they work towards getting back to full strength. Fans can stay updated on the team’s progress by following @alexjweiner on social media.
