Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Alek Thomas has progressed in his rehab from a hamstring injury by joining Triple-A Reno. Despite a delay due to general soreness, he will lead off and start at center field on Tuesday. The Diamondbacks wanted to ensure Thomas was fully ready before his return to prevent any longer-term issues.
D-backs manager Torey Lovullo did not specify how many games Thomas will play with the Aces before coming back to the MLB club. However, Lovullo mentioned at least a couple of games to help Thomas get back into the rhythm of playing against another team.
Thomas has been out of the D-backs lineup since March 31. He had a brief rehab stint in May before being shut down due to a setback. Thomas received a platelet-rich plasma injection to treat the hamstring injury, which has now allowed him to rejoin the team for further rehab and potential return to the MLB.
During his brief time with the Diamondbacks before his injury, Thomas recorded three hits, including a double and a home run, as well as four RBIs. His return to the team will be closely monitored as he continues his rehab in Triple-A Reno. Fans can follow updates on Thomas and his progress on AZSports.
