Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo announced that starting pitcher Zac Gallen is expected to make his return to the mound on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. Gallen has been sidelined since May 31 with a right hamstring strain, with his last start being on May 30 versus the New York Mets. In 11 starts this season, Gallen boasts a 5-4 record with a 3.12 ERA and 60 strikeouts.
Lovullo also provided an update on outfielder Alek Thomas, who has been out with a hamstring injury since April 1. Thomas will play 7-9 innings with the Triple-A Reno Aces over the next two days as the team cautiously progresses towards his return. In four games before his injury, Thomas accumulated three hits and four RBIs.
The Diamondbacks are set to face the A’s on Friday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m. The game can be followed on the Arizona Sports app, 98.7 FM, and ArizonaSports.com. Fans will be eagerly awaiting Gallen’s return to the rotation and hoping for Thomas’s swift recovery as the team looks to bolster its lineup for upcoming games.
