The Phoenix Mercury secured a 92-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night, with Kahleah Copper leading the charge with 24 points. Copper’s performance in the third quarter, where she scored 11 points, proved crucial in helping Phoenix build a substantial lead. Diana Taurasi also played a key role with 20 points, five 3-pointers, and six assists.
Phoenix’s strong third quarter saw them go on a 7-1 run to take a 72-62 lead, which they extended in the fourth with an 8-2 spurt. Natasha Cloud’s excellent pass to Copper for a layup further solidified their lead. Brittney Griner contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Cloud added 14 points and seven assists for Phoenix.
Despite a strong performance from Dearica Hamby, who tied her career high with 29 points, the Sparks were unable to secure a win on the last game of their seven-game road trip. Hamby’s four 3-pointers in the first half helped Los Angeles take a narrow lead at halftime. Taurasi’s four 3-pointers in the first half also played a significant role in Phoenix’s victory.
With this win, the Phoenix Mercury improved to 9-8, while the Los Angeles Sparks fell to 4-14. The Mercury will look to build on this victory in their upcoming games.
