Investigators discovered drug paraphernalia, including fentanyl pills, in the apartment where Walton and the child were staying. Court documents revealed that Walton had a history of illicit drug use, with previous incidents involving opiates, cocaine, THC, and methadone. The Arizona Department of Child Safety had multiple reports of substance addiction involving Walton and her children.

Walton was arrested on June 27, 2024, and is facing charges of first-degree murder during the course of a crime, child abuse, narcotic drug possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A judge has set her bond at $1 million, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8.

The tragic incident has shed light on the devastating impact of drug addiction on families and child welfare. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
