Smoke visible from semi-truck fire on Loop 202 near Mesa

A semi-truck fire on the Loop 202 Red Mountain freeway in Mesa, Arizona caused delays for commuters on Friday morning. The blaze, captured on ADOT cameras, led to thick black smoke blanketing the area. Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames while authorities closed several lanes of the freeway, allowing traffic to pass through only one lane. The driver of the truck was able to escape safely, and no one was inside the vehicle. The Loop 101 Pima northbound to Loop 202 Red Mountain westbound ramp was also closed as a result of the fire. Those traveling in the East Valley were urged to exercise caution and find alternate routes if possible. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. ADOT and local authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. For breaking news or to report any errors in the story, readers are encouraged to contact the news station.
