A brush fire broke out near the Boulder Heights community in north Scottsdale on Thursday afternoon, quickly spreading to 3,200 acres due to high winds and hot, dry conditions. Homes in the area were evacuated by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as the fire, dubbed the Boulder View Fire, reached 0% containment. With about 180 personnel assigned to the fire, efforts were being made to contain the blaze which officials suspect was human-caused.
Evacuations extended from east of 136th Street to 144th, north of Dove Valley, and west and south of the Tonto National Forest boundary. Aircraft were expected to assist in firefighting efforts on Friday morning, with crews working to prevent the fire’s spread in the Vista Verde community.
Burning operations were conducted to create a barrier between Bartlett Dam Road and Power Line Road, while hand crews focused on protecting structures in the area. Five structures were evacuated near the fire, and road closures were in effect as firefighters battled the blaze.
The fire, which began just after 2:30 p.m., prompted a swift response from fire management agencies. Investigations into the cause of the fire were ongoing as efforts to contain the Boulder View Fire continued.
