June is National Reunification Month, Celebrated by CASA of Arizona

Volunteers with CASA of Arizona and the Foster Care Review Board play a crucial role in reuniting children with their families by collaborating with experts, identifying, and recommending services that support family unity. These volunteers do not need any special prior knowledge and come from all walks of life. Anyone 21 years or older can apply, as long as they can pass a background check and complete training.

June is recognized as National Reunification Month, a time to celebrate families who have overcome challenges that led to their children being placed in foster care. CASA of Arizona is committed to advocating for children’s best interests, helping families access community resources, and creating safe environments for children.

The fundamental principle for CASA of Arizona is family preservation and reunification. The organization understands the trauma children experience when separated from their families, and aims to reunite them safely if necessary. Placing children with relatives helps maintain family bonds and cultural traditions, reducing separation trauma.

The Foster Care Review Board is another opportunity for volunteers to advocate for children’s best interests. Volunteers are appointed to a five-member panel that meets monthly to review cases of children in foster care. These volunteers also do not require special prior knowledge and come from diverse backgrounds.

Volunteers are invited to apply to make a difference in reuniting children with their families. Those interested in becoming a CASA volunteer can visit AZCASAVolunteer.org, and those interested in joining the Foster Care Review Board can visit AZFCRB.org for more information and resources.
